Hollywood, and the sequel Hollywood High were very cool programs that let kids "write, direct and play their own animated shows with talking characters". I was contracted to paint the backgrounds for the animations in the game. I really enjoyed it because I had a lot of creative freedom, and was working with a great team of artists. In the game, the user could write a script, add sound effects, music, pose the figures, and move them around in the scene by dragging them around with the mouse. Then they could write dialog, which would be spoken with a speech synth in the final movie. Too bad the company was run by a bunch of over-paid dilettantes, and went under soon thereafter. Some of them jumped ship and founded another failure (Ultra Politically Correct Games for Girls). I hear that they are now including Hollywood High free with some new computer sales.
